Overview
Nicoly Monteiro dos Santos is a Ph.D. candidate in the Romance Studies department at Duke University. Her work focuses on Latin American cinema, especially within the documentary and experimental modes. She explores the relationship between cinema and anthropology, specifically the impact of ethnographic cinema on traditional documentary forms. Her dissertation examines the work of contemporary female filmmakers in the continent, investigating how they disrupt hegemonic modes of representation through experimental aesthetics. Her research also considers decolonial feminisms and women's first-person narratives in Latin America.
