Raquel Rae Bartz
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology

My current clinical and teaching interests include caring and educating about critically ill patients with severe organ dysfunction who require ICU level care.

Current Research Interests

My research interests are focused on understanding severe critical illness and how to support and reverse organ dysfunction.  I have interests in several research programs including the use of Electronic Health Records to build automated ways to understand severity of illness in patients with severe organ dysfunction and for the purposes of detecting public health threats in a real-time fashion.  My basic science research has focused on understanding the role of mitochondrial DNA repair and mitochondrial biogenesis during sepsis and acute lung injury from bacterial and viral infections.  My translational research includes gaining a better understanding of the host response to influenza viral infection and virulence factors associated with severe organ failure.
