Overview


Dr. Ruba Sajdeya is a physician–scientist with dual training in anesthesiology and epidemiology. Her research bridges clinical medicine, data science, and pharmacoepidemiology to improve perioperative outcomes, with a particular focus on pain, anesthesia, and substance-related perioperative risks. She leads projects that integrate electronic health records, natural language processing, and machine learning to uncover new insights into how patient factors, including substance use, affect anesthesia and analgesia, postoperative pain, and recovery outcomes. At Duke, Dr. Sajdeya also plays a leading role in the department’s data infrastructure, helping to build systems that support investigators in study design, data curation, and advanced analytic approaches.
