Overview
Soohyun Yoon received her Ph.D. in the Department of Art, Art History and Visual Studies at Duke University in 2023. She specializes in painting, print, and embroidery of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, with a focus on Buddhist subjects and women as art producers, patrons, and consumers. Her other research interests include the visual hybridization between the Virgin Mary and the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara observable in late Imperial Chinese art. She currently teaches as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Art, Art History and Visual Studies.
Before completing her doctorate at Duke AAHVS, Soohyun earned her M.A. in Art History at Seoul National University, South Korea. She also worked in the Exhibition Division of the National Museum of Korea, South Korea, and served as a residential research fellow at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, Washington D.C.
