I study the ability of apoptosis and pyroptosis to clear various intracellular bacteria, such as Salmonella typhimurium, Chromobacterium violaceum, and Listeria monocytogenes. I use an engineered bacteria model that allows me to selectively induce programmed cell death in infected cells to investigate the effect of cell death on bacterial replication and clearance.
