These lectures overview recent progress in understanding of small scale and nite time singularity formation in solutions of the incompressible Euler equation and related models. We start with the background information on existence and uniqueness of solutions in two dimensions, and proceed to discuss examples of solutions of the 2D Euler equation with fast growth in gradient of vorticity. We then discuss Hou-Luo scenario for nite time blow up in solutions of the 3D Euler equation and simplified 1D models designed to gain insight into some features of the scenario.
