The core elements of perioperative medicine curricula provide the foundation and skillset for the successful practice of perioperative medicine. Clinical concepts are framed within the six domains of quality care and improvement science tools. Transformation toward value-based care models requires that trainees appreciate the multidimensional factors that challenge the clinical microsystems in which care is delivered.
