Radar-Based Non-Contact Physiological Sensing
Radar remote respiration sensing technology is gaining attention and over the last four decades, there has been significant advancement to utilize this technology in different biomedical application areas. Microwave Radar sensing technologies and systems are playing an important role in different healthcare applications such as remote breathing monitoring, identity authentication, occupancy sensing, sleep monitoring, security/surveillance, and so on. Radar is an attractive approach for remote breathing monitoring as it is a non-contact and privacy-invasive way to monitor. This chapter focuses on discussing the basics of radar remote respiration sensing technology and its associated advantages over other traditional wearable sensing methodologies. It also highlights the different potential new emerging application areas of this non-contact sensing technique. Additionally, it also discusses the research direction for young researchers to explore this new sensing methodology and continue their efforts in this area. Several future research challenges have been highlighted to solve these challenges to bring this sensor technology into the real world of implementation for ubiquitous deployment.
