Innovations, emerging technologies, predictions, and future research
Endoscopic spine surgery has advanced rapidly over the last decade. As a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open and microscopic surgical approaches, this field has demonstrated several advantages, such as minimized soft tissue trauma and faster recovery times. Procedural efficiency and patient outcomes are reaching new milestones with the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation devices, and navigation systems. However, endoscopic spine surgery does carry additional challenges, such as higher radiation and steep learning curves for surgeons. This chapter explores recent developments in endoscopic spine surgery, with an emphasis on current technologies and emerging novel techniques. To conclude, we discuss predictions for future innovation in endoscopic spine surgery in the next decade, including new opportunities that future research could open.
