STRATEGIES FOR THE CYTOSOLIC DELIVERY OF MACROMOLECULES: AN OVERVIEW

The advent of molecular biology and genetics has identified numerous biotechnology-derived macromolecular drugs as potential targets for development. The delivery of small molecules requires compromise between aqueous solubility and membrane partition properties while that of proteins and genes requires protection from enzymatic degradation and denaturation. This article focuses on strategies to promote the cytosolic delivery of macromolecular therapeutics.
