Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are complex lesions that require specialized, multidisciplinary treatment. Patients may be encountered in the intensive care unit either following intracranial hemorrhage from AVM rupture or following elective surgical resection of an unruptured AVM. This chapter reviews all aspects of clinical management of AVMs including initial assessment and critical care, perioperative considerations, and the available neurosurgical interventions utilized for definitive AVM treatment.
