Evidence-Based Primary Care Media Plan to Reduce Youth Screen Time

Excessive screen time among children is linked to adverse health outcomes and often exceeds American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations. To evaluate implementation of the AAP Family Media Plan (FMP) in pediatric primary care. A quality improvement initiative used Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles to implement a bilingual FMP during well child visits for patients aged 2-17 years. Outcomes included screening rates and caregiver-reported change at 30 days. Screening increased to a mid-intervention peak. Among caregivers completing follow-up (n = 19), 47.4% reported reduced screen time. Structured screening improved counseling delivery, although sustainability remained variable.
