The American Society of Transplant Surgeons and American Journal of Transplantation at 25 years: Where we have been and where we will go.

American Journal of Transplantation (AJT) was founded as a joint collaboration between the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) and American Society of Transplantation (AST) 25 years ago. AJT has served a key role in the dissemination of the advancements made in the field during the past quarter century. In recognition of this milestone anniversary for AJT, the major innovations within transplantation were organized into 2 separate reviews prepared by authors on behalf of ASTS and the AST respectively. The areas summarized by the ASTS range from progress in public policy to basic science discoveries in tolerance and molecular diagnostics, as well as innovations in clinical protocols, surgical procedures, and technology such as advanced organ perfusion and xenotransplantation to expand access to transplantation.
