Computer-based models were used to study excitation of CNS neurons with an extracellular electrode. Results identify the neuronal elements that are activated by stimulation in the CNS, suggest effective methods fo stimulating targeted neuromal populations, and demonstrate the utility of computer-based models to predict and control CNS stimulation.
