The field of retina over time is increasingly moving away from surgery and more towards medical treatments. As such, there are an ever-increasing number of significant medical retina trials. It is important for the reader to understand the value of past clinical trials when interpreting and putting into context newly released trial data. Trials pertaining to diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and vein occlusion are here most heavily reviewed. Additionally, the Studies of the Ocular Complications of AIDS (SOCA), Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS), and Vitamin A and E Supplementation for Retinitis Pigmentosa are reviewed.
