After surgical repair for acute aortic syndromes, whether with open, endovascular or hybrid approaches, immediate post-operative and long-term monitoring require a patient specific approach. In the acute phase, dissection, in particular, can create a cascade of malperfusion of branch vessels accompanied by profound metabolic derangements. In the long term, consistent institutional guidelines for imaging modality and frequency are critical to monitor for complications of repair or degeneration of native aorta, which may require late intervention. In this chapter, we discuss immediate post-operative monitoring and long term surveillance approaches for both Type A and Type B acute aortic syndromes.
