Angular correlation of x rays: L-M cascades of plutonium

Angular correlations between L and M x rays in Pu239 obtained from a radioactive source of 32-yr Cm243 were measured using Si(Li) and Ge(Li) detectors. The measured angular-correlation coefficients A22=(8.5±1.5)×10-2 for the Lβ1-M cascade and A22=(7.7±2.0)×10-2 for the Lα1+2-M cascade are both significantly higher than theoretical predictions. The intensity of the Pu L1-L3 x ray per L1 vacancy was found to be I(L1-L3)Γ(L1)=(6.6±0.8)×10-2. The angular correlation coefficient of the Lα-(L1-L3) x-ray cascade was measured and found to be A22=(3±7)×10-2 and is in agreement with theoretical predictions. © 1975 The American Physical Society.
