A magnetic tracking/virtual reality based system for comprehensive kinematic assessment of the cervical spine is described. The system is designed to enable accurate and precise measurement, description, and control of the movements of the head relative to the torso. A potential advantage of this system is the ability to tailor the virtual environment for optimal performance of selected movement tasks for the assessment of cervical spine kinematics in basic science as well as clinical applications.
