Research Interests
His current research interests include America in the world, with particular attention to the global circulation of animals and agricultural knowledge during the nineteenth century. He is interested in the histories and development of zoological gardens and living collections within transnational contexts, as well as the ways livestock breeding and animal collection shaped practices of display and scientific exchange. He also studies American art and visual culture, especially agricultural and zoological architecture and the role of landscape and plantation painting in representing environments, labor, and nonhuman life within broader systems of class and race.
