Overview
Eli Troen is a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies, with a focus on Japanese tea culture (chanoyu), ritual practice, and early 20th century modernism. He earned an M.A. in East Asian Art History (2026) from the University of Kansas and a Joint A.B. in Theater, Dance, and Media and Linguistics (2020) from Harvard University. At Duke, he is pursuing a Certificate in East Asian Studies through the Asian/Pacific Studies Institute (APSI).
He is also a Member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Japanese History Lab, led by Dr. Morgan Pitelka.
