Overview
Erica Bolar, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CHPN, CNE-cl has a passion for teaching the next generation of nursing students. Dr. Bolar is a graduate of Emory University and an experienced Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Hospice and Palliative Care. She is an experienced nurse educator and has taught nursing students at the prelicensure, undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Bolar is currently a Consulting Associate at the Duke University School of Nursing in the MSN program. She has frequently guest lectured on topics related to death and dying, terminal illness and end-of-life care. Dr. Bolar completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the University of Alabama, Huntsville. Her doctoral research resulted in a 50-80% reduction in emergency department visits and rehospitalizations in home-dwelling hospice patients experiencing dyspnea. Her current research interests include improving and expanding end-of-life education for health professions students and healthcare providers. Dr. Bolar is also interested in improving patient outcomes at the end-of-life and improving clinical staff and student education surrounding terminal disease care. Erica speaks Spanish fluently and has additional interests in community/public health, global health, and medical missions. Dr. Bolar has traveled to and lived in multiple countries in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East for purposes of humanitarian service.
