Overview
Katerina Kotar is a first-year Ph.D. student in musicology. Her research often explores the intertwined nature of music, visual art, historical dress and costume, and performance practice. She specializes in the music and culture of early modern Italy, with a particular interest in Venetian music of the 17th and 18th centuries and the material culture of the women who trained in music at its ospedali grandi.
Katerina holds an M.M in musicology and M.M. historical performance practice for baroque cello and viola da gamba from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University (2023). She earned her B.M. in cello performance from Chapman University where she also studied art history.
