Overview
Dr. McNally is a Senior Lecturing Fellow in the Department of Health, Wellness & Physical Education and teaches courses on the physical and mental health benefits of exercise. She earned a BS in Psychology from Duke University, MS in Exercise Science form the University of Florida and an EdD in Exercise Science from UNC Greensboro. Dr. McNally also completed a Certificate in Core Public Health Concepts from UNC Chapel Hill and previously held personal training and wellness coaching certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine.
Dr. McNally has served as an advisor for several health and exercise-related student organizations, Bass Connections teams, and Graduation with Distinction theses. She has collaborated with various health and exercise related groups at Duke, such as developing a Physical Activity Counseling curriculum for the Pediatric Residency program and an Exercise Physiology curriculum for the Duke Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Beyond her academic roles, Dr. McNally has a few exercise-related professional experiences. She qualified for the NCAA and USA Track & Field Championships as an undergraduate at Duke and participated in the US Olympic Trials in the 800 meter dash during graduate school. Dr. McNally started her career on the business side of exercise and health science, working as a Fitness Director for a residential obesity center and a regional health club chain and then later as a national Director of Operations before returning to graduate school for doctoral studies.
