Overview
Matlhabeli is a PhD student in the department of Cultural Anthropology, also pursuing a certificate in African and African American Studies. She is interested in the experience of work, broadly construed, and questions of labor migration, neoliberal capitalism, and the University in post-colonial Africa. Her dissertation project studies the experience of chronic unemployment for Basotho women with a post-secondary education. Across her work, she asks, how is unemployment difficult? How do the unemployed improvise their lives and theorize about them?
