Overview

Matthew Melgoza is a doctoral student in the Department of Romance Studies. Matthew’s research is focused on premodern ideas of the relationship between the natural and hybrid—that is, how writers have reimagined the contra naturam through narrative persona. This area of interest has them examine gender and sexuality, as well as disability. In addition to English, they work with French, Spanish, and Latin premodern sources and contemporary theory.

Matthew holds a Master’s in French, a Bachelor’s in English Literature, and a Bachelor’s in French from the University of North Texas, alongside a certificate in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. They are a graduate member of Duke’s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
