Research Interests
I'm interested in marine mammal bio-acoustics and conservation, of which I've worked on a variety of species including: North Atlantic right whales, goose-beaked whales, Florida manatees, short-finned pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, and false killer whales. More broadly, I'm interested in bioacoustics, ecology, and animal behavior in land and sea.
My dissertation focuses on acoustic nonlinear phenomena in the phonations of pilot whales via a long term suction cup tag data set and playback experiments off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. As part of my dissertation, I'm framing this work both in the larger Artiodactyla lineage using phylogenetic methods and mimicking his pilot whale studies in Northern mockingbirds (Mimus poltglottus).
