Overview


Shanika's broad research interest is improving the theoretical understanding of the cognitive processes that support language production. Her goal is that this will aid in the development of diagnostic tools, and intervention methods for neurogenically-compromised populations such as those with apragmatism after right hemisphere stroke. Before becoming a student at Duke, she was a clinical research speech-language pathologist in the Minga Right Hemisphere Communication Lab at Duke and was previously a research assistant on projects related to executive function skills in children, bilingual language acquisition, and laryngeal cancer treatment at New York University, Yeled V Yalda Research Institute, and Oakwood University, respectively.
