Overview


Andrew Sisson has over 30 years’ experience as a strategist, diplomat, leader, teacher and mentor.   Former senior executive in U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  Worked with U.S. Departments of State, Defense and other agencies to advance U.S. foreign policy objectives and help other nations recover from crisis and achieve long-term development.  Led startup and restructuring of large USAID operations in Africa, Asia and the Balkans, and advised foreign governments on policy and organizational reform.   

Launched USAID’s innovation hub – U.S. Global Development Lab – and led it in working with universities, companies and other governments to develop technology and innovation that accelerate global development.  Integrated Lab’s new ways of doing business into USAID operations worldwide, and advised foreign governments on creating similar departments.   

Negotiated agreements in several countries with governments, businesses and local leaders, and frequently gave interviews to international and local media.  Taught senior military officers pursuing a Master’s degree in National Security Strategy at National War College – Department of Defense’s premier academic institution.  Mentored students and professionals throughout his career, helping them advance their education and careers.  

Since retiring from USAID in 2018, have been a senior advisor at FHI 360, a global NGO, helping launch a new Digital Development department and assisting top management with other special projects.  Also, created and taught an undergraduate course at the University of North Carolina on conflict, development and U.S. foreign policy.
