With co-PI Margaret Regan, we proposed the Faculty-Student (FaSt) Math Series program, based on two main objectives to improve departmental climate among faculty and students. First, we aim to teach and support faculty through learning how to create and participate in community within their classrooms, their department, and at Duke. This will be done through structured workshops aimed at equitable teaching practices and language, as well as invited speakers to discuss common diversity and inclusivity issues within the mathematics community. Secondly, we will organize events to facilitate community building and to establish a sense of belonging in the Duke Mathematics community. This includes sponsoring social teas, seminars, and discussions for all members of the Duke Math department, from non-math major undergraduate students to faculty and staff.
