Research Interests
My research centers on understanding and minimizing occupational exposure to carcinogens. In my work with Latino migrant and seasonal farmworkers as well as nursing assistants in the healthcare setting, I recognize and hold central their vulnerabilities as occupational groups, and examine not only their individual protective behaviors but factors external to them such as their workplace environment and relationships with their employers. I also elicit strategies for behavior change within the groups themselves and use a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches in my work, with an emphasis on the observational method.
