Brian M. Mugo

Assistant Professor of Medicine
Medicine, General Internal Medicine

Overview

As a primary care doctor and general internist, my most important career commitment is the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to my patients.  In addition to this dedication, my scholarly enthusiasm is medical education.  After completing my residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), I served as a chief resident, gaining significant experience in both teaching and administration.  Thereafter, I joined the teaching faculty as a primary care doctor and educator at the Internal Medicine Associates Clinic at MGH. In my role, I taught medical students in the Crimson Care Collaborative Clinic; residents as a preceptor in the clinic; and was a co-director for the Resident as Teacher course.  In recognition of my teaching activities, I was awarded the 2023 Ambulatory Teaching award which is given on behalf of the residents in recognition of a faculty member for enthusiasm and devotion to medical housestaff education in the ambulatory setting and for serving as a role model in the outpatient community.  In addition to graduate and undergraduate teaching, I have also served as an associate director for two continuing medical education courses - Primary Care Internal Medicine and General Internal Medicine for Specialists - which combined brought in over $1 million in revenue.  I am excited to bring my passion of and experiences in medical education to the Duke community.
