Overview


Coalter G. Lathrop teaches seminars on International Environmental Law and Law of the Sea at Duke. Lathrop graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology. He spent two years working in Asia before attending the School of Marine Affairs at the University of Washington.  After several years in Washington, DC with the federal government and the law firm LeBoeuf, Lamb, Lathrop started an international boundary consultancy, Sovereign Geographic.  In his capacity as a legal and technical consultant he has assisted foreign governments with the resolution of their disputed boundaries, including in litigation before the International Court of Justice, International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and ad hoc arbitration panels.

Lathrop returned to Duke to complete his J.D. and LL.M. in International and Comparative Law. He writes and speaks on international law issues, and serves as Editor of International Maritime Boundaries. Lathrop is based in Asheville, NC.
