Overview
Derek Armstrong MD is a pediatric gastroenterologist and clinical researcher. He is the director of the pediatric inflammatory bowel disease program. Dr. Armstrong's goal is to improve the care of pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease by leading a clinical and translational research program. He has a particular interest in the role of the gut microbiome in the onset and progression of intestinal inflammation and determining the response to therapeutic agents in pediatric IBD. His research utilizes microbiome and metabolomic signatures to further develop precision medicine strategies in the treatment of pediatric IBD. He also leads a quality improvement program to improve the care for pediatric IBD patients through collaboration with the ImproveCareNow Network.
