The students from Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering have been successful in competing, winning, and receiving recognition on the national scale for projects involving green, renewable, sustainable energy and
environment projects culminating in developing products that have the potential to meet market challenges and change with the growing “green” market needs of the consumer. In addition to having to complete a rigorous and thorough business plan for these new products, these “real life” experiences have also challenged the students on all academic levels including; the need to understand the technology, learn the intellectual property aspects associated with the technology, determine how to manufacture and manage the products associated with the technology, and
determine the costs and associated potential value of these products in the marketplace. In summary, the experience inside and outside the classroom for these students, has prepared them to take the lead on green, clean, sustainable, projects involving energy and the environment, allowing them to be successful Duke engineering graduates upon completion of their degrees.
