Overview
I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Massachusetts to attend Mount Holyoke College. I worked for two years as a research technician in Boston before starting the MD/PhD program at Vanderbilt University. I completed a PhD in immunology, studying immune tolerance and pregnancy in Type 1 Diabetes.
I am so excited to be at Duke for my OB/Gyn residency! I felt like the program at Duke mirrored the interests that drew me to OB/Gyn as a specialty: incredible commitment to patient care, dedication to integrating advocacy into daily practice, and a desire to use research to better our understanding of diseases that impact people with Gyn organs. I was also very drawn in by the concept of building a community of "kind consultants"--I hoped to be a part of a group of trainees and faculty that wanted to collaborate across specialties to serve patients. This kindness seemed to permeate the department and create a culture of care and dedication not only towards patients, but towards each other.
My long term career goals include becoming an OB/Gyn-scientist studying the immunologic pathogenesis of diseases that affect Gyn organs. I am particularly interested in the intersection between autoimmune disease and pregnancy, particularly the effects of antibody-mediated disease. I am also interested in biomedical ethics, especially the ethical integration of pregnant patients into biomedical and clinical research.
