Overview


Madeline Crozier Sutton is an Assistant Professor of the Practice of Writing Studies and Assistant Director of the TWP Writing Studio. She is a writing studies scholar whose research works to advance equity in the teaching and learning of writing. She studies the impacts of assessment at classroom, programmatic, and institutional levels.

Her research interests include composition pedagogy, equitable assessment, writing center administration, and writing pedagogy education. Areas of expertise include first-year writing, teacher and tutor training, and qualitative research methods and methodologies. Her research has appeared in Composition Forum, Journal of Business & Technical Communication, and several edited collections.

Madeline earned her PhD in English (Rhetoric, Writing, & Linguistics) from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2025) and MA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse from DePaul University (2020). She serves as Assistant Secretary of the Online Writing Centers Association (OWCA), Graduate Student Representative of the Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA), and Associate Editor (Copyediting) for the Journal of Writing Assessment.
