Maha Houssami

Senior Lecturer of Arabic Language in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
Asian & Middle Eastern Studies
222 Franklin Center, Box 90414, John Hope Franklin Center, Durham, NC 27708

Overview

Collaboration with students on projects and adaptive techniques in Foreign Language education are at the center of my approach. My aim is to empower students to be leaders in this field and to continue to explore the language and the culture beyond their college careers. I offer through my classes an exceptionally immersive experience with direct access to authentic voices in the US and abroad.

I also strive to serve the Duke community by continually enhancing Arabic offerings to celebrate global diversity and emphasize the commonalities over differences. I am fortunate to serve students and faculty in my teaching and administrative capacities and to be in a place where creativity and innovation in the curriculum are initiated at the Arabic program level.
