What's in a Letter of Recommendation? Do Generalists Write Differently than Specialists? - UNC OBGYN Medical Education Symposium · March 22, 2024 Instructional Course, Workshop, or Symposium UNC , UNC Rizzo Hall

This is a poster presentation to present findings on letter writing for medical students applying to OBGYN residencies. Surveys were distributed to Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) practitioners in five departments, targeting those who compose at least one letter of recommendation for OBGYN residency programs annually. The study's outcome suggests similarity in letter writing habits, with the notable exception of letter length. Generalists typically craft letters shorter than a page (<1 page), whereas specialists tend towards longer compositions (90% vs. 63%).

Clinical Activities

I provide comprehensive office gynecology care, managing complex gynecological conditions and offering specialized consultations for cervical dysplasia evaluation and treatment, including colposcopy and office LEEP procedures. My practice includes contraceptive counseling and care for patients transitioning through perimenopause and menopause. Additionally, I perform surgical management for complex benign gynecology cases, provide inpatient consultations, and offer emergency department coverage.

On Labor and Delivery, I perform scheduled and unscheduled procedures, often managing high-risk patients with elevated BMI, prior surgeries, and other complexities. I also assist in overseeing the active Labor and Delivery floor and triage, ensuring optimal patient care in a dynamic clinical environment.
