Overview
Nolan Arkansas (he/him) (Eastern Band Cherokee) is a PhD student in Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke, working under the direction of Professor Richard Powell. He received his B.A. in American Studies from Yale College in 2023. Nolan's dissertation project takes methodological cues from contemporary Native American women artists to explore turn-of-the-twentieth century photographed portraits of Native American women.
