Overview
Professor of Political Science and of Law, specializes in public law, the judicial process, and the development of U.S. courts and law. He is the author of The Politics of Federal Administration, The Office of Chief Justice, and a chapter in An Uncertain Tradition: Constitutionalism, and the History of the South, and in The Early Republic and the Sea: Essays on the Naval and Maritime History of the Early Republic. His articles have been published in the Kentucky Law Journal, the University of Chicago Law Review, the Journal of Politics, the Yearbook of the Supreme Court Historical Society, the Western Political Quarterly, the Supreme Court Review, the Justice System Journal, the Judicature, the American Journal of Legal History, the Dictionary of American Biography, the Dictionary of North Carolina Biography, the Encyclopedia of the American Judicial System, the Encyclopedia of the American Constitution, the Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Law and History Review, the Journal of Southern Legal History, the Civil Rights in the United States, and the Great American Lawyers: An Encyclopedia.
