Overview
Ryan M. Kane, MD, MPH is a National Clinician Scholar through at Duke University’s National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) and a Medical Instructor in the Duke Division of General Internal Medicine. His research interest is utilizing community engaged research methods, health system integration, and political advocacy to address inequities in socially derived metabolic diseases with a particular focus on co-occurring obesity and food insecurity. Ryan’s NCSP position is funded through generous support by the Duke School of Medicine, the Duke Margolis Center for Health Policy, and the North Carolina Association of Local Health Directors, Region 7, building upon Duke NCSP’s ongoing partnership with Granville-Vance Public Health.
Dr. Kane received a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University prior to attending the Medical University of South Carolina for his Doctor of Medicine degree. While in medical school, Dr. Kane took a year off to complete a Master of Public Health in the Social and Behavioral Sciences with concentrations in Nutrition and Global Health as well as Health Communication at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Given his interest in underserved ambulatory medicine and health promotion, Dr. Kane completed Internal Medicine Residency at Oregon Health & Science University. He continued as a Chief Resident at Oregon Health & Science University where he collaborated on multilevel curriculum development and system-wide quality improvement projects. Ryan is an active member of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) and currently serves as an Associate Member of the SGIM National Council. Clinically, Dr. Kane will see patients at both the Duke Outpatient Clinic and the Duke Lifestyle and Weight Management Center.
