Overview


Dr. Utley-Smith joined the Duke University School of Nursing in 2002. For seven years of her career, she practiced as a certified family nurse practitioner, centering her practice on the wellness care of adults 55 years of age and older. Past research efforts include health promotion/aging and competencies of health care workforce personnel (RNs and CNAs). Dr. Utley-Smith received her Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Connecticut and Doctorate degree (Health Occupations Education) from North Carolina State University. Her present research explores the relationship patterns between nursing staff and long term care residents’ family members and their link to quality of care.
