Mood disorders in DSM-IV and ICD-10 are classified into a number of different categories, including manic episode, depressive episode, bipolar disorder, unipolar disorder, dysthymia, adjustment disorder with depressed mood, and depressed mood associated with Alzheimer's disease. Some categories of diagnoses have been suggested that may be uniquely applicable to the elderly but which are not in the current nomenclature, such as vascular depression. In this chapter, each of these diagnostic categories is reviewed briefly with attention directed toward similarities and differences between DSM-IV and ICD-10. © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
