This chapter presents multi-state availability modeling in practice. We use three analytic modeling techniques; (1) continuous time Markov chains, (2) stochastic reward nets, and (3) multi-state fault trees. Two case studies are presented to show the usage of these modeling techniques: a simple system with two boards and the processors subsystem of the VAXcluster. The three modelling techniques are compared in terms of the solution accuracy and the solution time.
