The task of providing effective inpatient treatment for children is a difficult one and requires a broad, clearly conceptualized model of intervention. This paper reviews previous treatment models and presents a more inclusive milieu model derived from general systems theory. Such a systems model is particularly helpful in clarifying the interactional aspects of the treatment program and in resolving various forms of milieu regression. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
