Presentation of Case A newborn girl, aged eight hours, was admitted to the hospital because of petechiae. The child was the product of a 39-week gestation in a gravida 2, 23-year-old mother. The pregnancy was complicated by a febrile illness without a rash at three months and by diarrhea on several occasions in the final trimester. The child's mother gave a history of rubella in. childhood; her blood group was A, Rh positive; a serologic test for syphilis was negative. The Apgar score at birth was 8 on a scale of 10, and the birth weight was 1.8 kg. There. © 1973, Massachusetts Medical Society. All rights reserved.
