This paper introduces an approach that can be used to model the mechanical behaviour of fibre-reinforced composites exhibiting stochastic fluctuations in local volume fractions. In particular, a relevant theoretical framework is briefly introduced and a few experimental results are presented [6]. The results can also be used to investigate both the existence and definition of a representative volume element [7].
