The waste manager needs to understand wastewater’s characteristics and how it can be treated. Wastewater is similar to solid waste, differing mainly by the former’s higher water content. This chapter discusses the physical, chemical, and biological processes at work in the various stages of wastewater treatment, as well as how water pollutants may be transported and transformed after an effluent is discharged.
