Solid waste can be classified as hazardous if it consists of sufficient quantities of inherently harmful substances. Special scientific and engineering considerations must be given to a hazardous waste. This chapter explores the various kinds of hazardous wastes and the approaches that can be taken to reduce the hazard and risk. This includes treatment technologies and handling procedures.
