Summary: In glycogen storage diseases (GSDs), there is excessive glycogen build-up in the muscle, liver, and/or heart. This leads to a number of clinical manifestations with a variable spectrum. The GSDs are broadly classified based on the type of tissues involved. Types I, VI, and IX (subtypes α2 and γ2) primarily affect the liver. Types II, V, and VII primarily affect the muscle. Type a III, IV, and IX (subtype β) can affect both the liver and muscle. There are over 15 types of GSDs. Nutrition plays a key in the management guidelines for all GSDs. This chapter provides an insight to the importance of nutrition in major GSDs.
